Etching, a fine early impression before roulette rework, printed on laid paper showing part of a lettered watermark, in good condition and with thread margins all round.
This rare small etching was once attributed to Rembrandt himself, and later to Ferdinand Bol, but is now classified as by an unknown pupil of Rembrandt. It comes from the celebrated Aylesford Collection, famed for prints by Rembrandt himself, the best of which were acquired by the British Museum in 1948, obviously not including this subject as the Museum already owned an impression bequeathed by Clayton Mordaunt Cracherode in 1799
